Honoring Doreene Simpkins

On August 24 Doreene (Doe), with a twinkle in her eye passed away peacefully and tenderly into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Married for 65 years, she is survived by the love of her life, William Orinn Simpkins, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Rick Brasher, grandsons William Jackson (Meagan Van Buren), Richard Gray (Sarah Storey) and Edward Taylor (Brittany Cameron) and a great grandchild due in January. Her son, William Mart Simpkins, passed away on August 21.

Born in Kelso, Tennessee on June 17, 1928, she is predeceased by her parents, Ethel Gray and Asa Edward Dickey and her brothers Edward Gray (Doris), Dr. Garland Martin, Robert Alvin (Faye), Arthur Eugene (Lena) and Jerry Max. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Dr. Ouida Dickey and Mary Dickey, and eight nieces and nephews.

Known for being an extraordinary memory keeper for her family, Doe leaves behind a powerful legacy of grit, determination, quick-wit, spunk and fun. Her gifts of hospitality and homemaking blessed all who love her. Doe’s unquenchable faith in the Lord sustained, guided and strengthened her always.

The Simpkins and Brasher families remain grateful for the care and compassion of Dr. Bruce Richards and Alive Hospice.

A celebration of Doe’s life is planned for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30 at Belle Meade United Methodist Church with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and immediately following the service.
