Honoring Hardy Moyers

Hardy Raymond Moyers, former Deputy Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Revenue, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the age of 86. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sandra Woodward Moyers; sons, Sam Moyers (Anna), Mike Moyers (Rhonda); step daughter, Jessica Ray (Greg) and grandchildren, Jonathan, Cara and Ashlyn. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy M. Bagley (Tom); niece, Lee Ann Dawkins (Harold); nephew, Tom Begley, Jr. (Lynn); several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond H. and Evelyn O. Moyers.

Mr. Moyers was educated in the Fayetteville, TN city schools and a 1954 graduate of Vanderbilt University. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a 1957 graduate of Vanderbilt Law School and successfully passed the Bar Exam. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

In addition to his 35 years of service at the Department of Revenue, he was a member of several tax associations including the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators.

Hardy was active in the community, serving as an Elder at Brenthaven Church. He was a member of Tennessee Trails and was a videographer filming weddings, baptisms and other special events. He enjoyed traveling all over the world, including Antarctica.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was highly respected both professionally and personally. He was a kind, compassionate person who was endeared to all who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held at Brenthaven Church, 516 Franklin Rd., Brentwood, TN on Wednesday, December 5 at 4:00 p.m.  His family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until time of the service at the church.  Active pallbearers are Jonathan Moyers, Dylan Hazard, Steve Woodward, Tom Bagley, Jr., Ronny Jones and Stan Chervin. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Seekers Sunday School Class, members of Brenthaven Men’s Fellowship, Patsy Clark and Fay Hardesty.

A private burial will occur on Thursday, December 6 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville, TN.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brenthaven Church, the Sacred Sparks Ministry (at Brenthaven Church) or Alive Hospice.

We would like give a special thanks to the incredible staff of Woodcrest Health Center at the Blakeford, the staff at Alive Hospice and Dr. Timothy Hinton.
