Honoring Dr. Howard Fuchs

Dr. Howard Fuchs, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 28, 2019. One of 6 children of Ruth and Chris Fuchs, Howard was born on August 21, 1955, in Greeley, Colorado. Raised in the town of Eaton, he attended the Colorado School of Mines where he completed a chemical engineering degree as a student athlete swimmer.  He went on to complete a medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.  After meeting the love of his life, Cathy, he made Nashville and Vanderbilt his home. He spent his entire career at Vanderbilt and the Nashville VA, where he served as the Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director. He had two sons, Chris and Paul, to whom he was a loving father and role model.

Howard was a caring husband, father, sibling, and physician. He dedicated his life to serving others and considered this his calling as he attended to the needs of everyone around him – patients, friends, and family. He organized every gathering; cooked every family meal. He was uniquely and wonderfully both blunt and empathic, and he was knowledgeable about seemingly endless topics. He was funny in his own Howard way, which included a catalogue of geology-themed puns. His faith was shared by his family, and he will be missed until the time that they are re-united.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, his loving life partner of 40 years, his two sons Chris and Paul (Alexis Braun), his 5 siblings, Christine Fuchs Raabe, Ken Fuchs (Carol), Elinor Fuchs Martin (Rick), Earl Fuchs (Laurie), Alice Fuchs and multiple nieces and nephews.  A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church (3701 Hillsboro Pike) on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2:30 pm. Visitation will begin prior to the service at 1 pm in the church’s Masters Common. The family will be there to greet relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Faith Lutheran Church, 36980 Weld County Road, Eaton, Colorado 80615 or the Arthritis Foundation.
