Honoring Jim Crafton

Dr. James Crafton passed away on Friday, February 15, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born to John P. and Betty Crafton of Portland, Tennessee, on September 10, 1959.  He left us far too soon.

Jim graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1981, with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and the UT Health Science Center College of Dentistry in Memphis, TN, in 1985.  A beloved dentist, he served his patients with compassion and integrity for almost 34 years.  His gentle spirit and wonderful sense of humor always put his patients at ease.  He was a gift to all who knew him.

Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, and serving his community.  He was an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he gave of his time and talents in many leadership and service roles. He was a board member of the Interfaith Dental Clinic and a member of Belle Meade Country Club.

In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kim Crafton, and his daughters, Mary Helen Crafton and Elizabeth Carlisle Crafton.  His girls were his greatest joy.  He is also survived by his brother John P. (Sara Ann) Crafton, Jr. of Portland, his aunt, Joyce Crafton of Nashville, and nieces Jennifer (Calen) Jones of Nashville, Emily Crafton of Franklin, and nephews John Austin Crafton of Portland, and Matt Hooper of Portland.

A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life, officiated by Dr. Donovan Drake, will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Ave., Nashville, TN 37205.  Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m., with a service to follow at 3 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Interfaith Dental Clinic, 600 Hill Avenue, Suite 101, Nashville, TN 37210. The Crafton family would like to extend a special thanks to Alive Hospice.
