Honoring Peggy Hoyal

Peggy Fuson Hoyal, age 87, died on August 9, 2019 after a brief illness.

She is survived by daughter Anne Ridley of Nashville, son Andrew Hoyal (Linda Walton) Seattle, Washington, grandsons Michael Hoyal and Todd Ridley (Katie Burnett), and a great granddaughter. Mrs. Hoyal is preceded in death by husband James Hoyal and daughter Rebecca Hoyal.

A Nashville native, Peggy graduated from East High in 1948.  She and her East High classmate Jimmy Hoyal were married for 63 years.

Peggy received her Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College and a Masters from the University of Tennessee.  She taught math for 29 years, mostly in McMinn County in East Tennessee.

After she and Jimmy retired, they returned to Nashville.  She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for the last twenty-five years.

Peggy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, colleague and friend.  She loved reading, crossword puzzles and talking.  She was straightforward and practical in her compassion for others.  She touched the lives of so many people.  Of her, it can be truly said that the world is a better place because she was with us.

Visitation with the family will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3900 West End Avenue, on Thursday, August 15, at 10 a.m., followed by a service of Witness to the Resurrection at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.
