Honoring Robert Ramer

Robert J. Ramer, 92, passed away on July 8, 2016 while under care at NHC at Cool Springs in Franklin, TN.

A native of Lockport, New York, and upon graduation from high school in 1941, he enrolled at Purdue University and became a member of its ROTC program. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, successfully completed flight training and was deployed to Europe as a combat fighter pilot with the 354th “Pioneer” Mustang Fighter Group. His squadron was among those to fly America’s then newly-developed fighter – the P-51 Mustang. He had over 30 combat sorties to his credit within the European Theater of Operations and was awarded the Air Medal and a Bronze Oak Leaf cluster.

Following war’s end, he completed his degree in civil engineering, attending night classes at SUNY Buffalo and he married Alice Julia Babosuk, the hometown sweetheart that was the love of his life and his best friend. During his professional career, he served as the Assistant City Engineer and a Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Lockport. In retirement, he enjoyed the freedom to travel across the US and visit many friends and places.

Bob enjoyed the good company of family and friends. He possessed an analytical mind, a tenacious spirit and a keen sense of humor. He demonstrated common sense to an uncommon degree. As a father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he gave of himself generously.
