“I was blessed to have been a student of Mrs Daws for two years at Overton. She provided encouragement and guidance to many students. I fondly remember her standing on tip toes to watch over us through the tiny classroom door window as we were took the AP English Exam. She also had a unique 'check, plus, dot' grading system. Praying for the family of my favorite teacher and Crieve Hall neighbor. Kimberly Patton Overton class of 1979”

“I was very privileged to have Mrs Daws as my English teacher for 2 years at Overton. She always made learning fun and exciting. She was literally the only class I looked forward to attending! Long after graduation and college graduation and marriage I still regale friends about Mrs Daws...she was that kind of an individual. To think her brilliant mind was stilled by such an insidious disease makes me sad. May God bless you all in your loss and grant you each His everlasting Peace. Carole Brooks Galyon”

“I enjoyed knowing Roberta for over 53 years. She served at our wedding in 1965. She and Joe have been close friends to this day. She was Faculty Sponsor of the Central HS newspaper in 1959 where she and Margaret, as a student, worked together. She always brought joy to our visits. I will miss her smile.”

“I am so indebted to Mrs. Daws for instilling in me a love for reading, and for opening my world up to the pleasure, challenge and adventure of good writing. She was absolutely one of my favorite teachers, and I regret that I never managed to let her know what a profound influence she had on me. She taught us the value of a good story in myriad forms, and I am so fortunate to have had this remarkable woman share her enthusiasm and love for writing with me.”

“To the Daws family: Your spouse, mother and grandmother was one of the few teachers I studied under at Overton High School that saw through my BS and encouraged me to study and become a better grammarian and writer. I have often thought of her and her Camaro or Trans Am - I cannot remember which she drove in the mid 1970's. She touched my life and the lives of so many who were her students at Overton. Rest in peace, Mrs. Daws, the final bell has rung and it is time for you to go home to your eternal rest in the loving arms of our savior, Jesus Christ.”

“Mrs. Daws was absolutely the best teacher and coach. She had a positive influence on thousands of children and young adults. Her impact on my life is ongoing...I would not have become an attorney had it not been for the spark she ignighted within me and the encouragement she gave me during and after high school. I don’t think there has been a week where I have not thought of her. She spoke often of her children and made us feel like we were one of her own. Oh those road trips in the van to tournaments! Her sense of humor...”speak now or forever hold your...” My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Chip Storey, Class of 1986”
