Honoring Joseph Steven Renner

Joseph Steven (Steve) Renner, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Ross Renner; son, Steven (Meg) Renner, Jr.; daughter, Alice (Sam) Fink; daughter, Mimi (Steve) Omiecinski and grandson, Stosh. Steve is also survived by his brother, Mike (Sandy) Renner; sisters, Martha Jane Renner and Janice (Jim) Domer.

Born in Cleveland, Tennessee to Marion and Elmer Renner, he was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and a lifelong resident of Nashville.

Steve had a passion for care-taking – both professionally and personally.  As a financial planner and life insurance agent, his clients remember him as extremely generous with his time and expertise.  As a husband, father and grandfather he is remembered as an exemplary role model for generosity and selflessness – both in large deeds and small daily acts.  Known for his ever-present sweet nature, his grandfather nickname was “Shug” – a combination of the words ‘sugar’ and ‘hugs’ – both of which he doled out in copious amounts.  He is fondly remembered as a teacher at the 12-Step Sunday School class at St Bartholomew’s and co-founder of the Adult Children of Alcoholics Meetings in Nashville.

A memorial service will be held February 29, 2020 at Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopalian Church at 10:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alive Hospice, 1710 Patterson Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
