Honoring Tom Ward

Thompson Ivey Ward, II passed away on October 5, 2019.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betty Branham Ward and his parents, Louise Neiderhauser Ward and James Best Ward.  Mr. Ward is survived by his children, Cynthia Ward Jennings (Harold), Teresa Ward (Burton), Thompson Ivey Ward, Jr., III (Kathy) and Jody Ward Anderson (Dr. J.C.); grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Miller-Davis (Taylor), Dr. Jessica Miller, Thompson Ivey Ward IV, Brett Ward (Indu), Dr. Abigail Jennings Martin (Jason), Benjamin Ward, Bryan Ward (Kellie), Katherine Anderson and great-grandchildren Brylie, Karlie and Adrianna Ward.

A native Nashvillian, Tom was born May 26, 1927. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Engineering and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.  He began his career at Lockheed, where he was part of the design-build team for the C-130 aircraft.  He later worked at Dupont and finished his career at Remay.

Tom lived a life of service, serving his country in the US Navy during World War II, serving as a deacon for many years at Lincoya Hills Baptist Church and later at Brentwood Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 40 years.  He was also a member of the Brentwood Lions Club where he served a term as president.  Tom served as co-leader of his son’s scout troops.  His other interests included tennis, golf, taking walks, bridge, traveling and spending time with family, friends and pets.

To honor and celebrate Tom’s life, Dr. Michal L. Glenn will conduct a service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Brentwood Baptist Church.  There will be a time of visitation immediately following the service at the church.  Mr. Ward will be buried with military honors at a private service at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.  Active pallbearers are Joseph Bryan Ward, Tom Ward, Jr., III, Harold Jennings, Dr. J. C. Anderson, James Benjamin Ward, Brett Alexander Ward, Thompson Ivey Ward, IV and Jason Martin.  Mr. Sanford H. Campbell is an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Brentwood Baptist Church, Hope for the World.  The Ward family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Hearth at Franklin for their devoted care of Tom in his final stages of life.
