Honoring Tim Portale

Timothy Jude Portale went home to be with the Lord on November 18, 2019, at the age of 56. Tim was born on April 4, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, as the second son of James and Rose Portale, who joyfully reunited with their son this week.

It was impossible not to love Tim once you met him. He had a zeal for life that few others could match. When he walked into a room, you knew it—either through his laugh (which often caused others to laugh), his radiant personality, or his invitation to join him in an activity you knew would be fun simply because he was involved.

Everything Tim did, he did it all-out. This approach became a way of life during his days playing football at Eastern Kentucky University and Trinity High School before that. Tim worked hard, played harder, and loved big. Everyone—from his teammates, to his coworkers, to his friends, to his family—knew they could count on Tim and looked forward to the next time they’d get to see him.

Tim loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter. Many weekends, you could find him at his farm in Charlotte, Tennessee, preparing for his next hunting adventure.

He was a 24-year team member at HCA, where he most recently worked as Chief Safety and Security Officer. One of his coworkers, Cookie Kimbrough, had this to say about her dear friend: “Tim Portale made us all laugh every day he was there. He loved his family more than his own life. The void he leaves is unimaginable.”

When he wasn’t working or hunting, you could find Tim with his wife, Leigh Ann, on the sidelines cheering for their son, Jax, a member of the Lipscomb Academy football and soccer teams, and their daughter, Ella, who plays soccer for Brentwood Academy and the Tennessee Soccer Club. He was also close with his oldest son, Tory, and supported his dreams of working in video production.

Those who knew Tim loved him dearly not just because he was easy to love, but because of the way he made them feel about themselves. Anything was possible when you were with Tim and breathed in the joy that he seemed to exude every day.

Tim is survived by his wife of 19 years, Leigh Ann Portale, their children Jax and Ella Portale, his son Tory Portale, and his older brother, Kevin Portale.

A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, from 5-8 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church – Parish Hall. The burial will be held on Thursday, November 21, at 1 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Tim can be made to Lipscomb Academy, Brentwood Academy, Trinity High School, or to the organization Backfield in Motion.

Memories and condolences may be shared through the online guestbook.
