Honoring William Orinn Simpkins

On September 27, Bill Simpkins peacefully and joyfully passed away into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, after 95 blessed years. He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Doreene (Doe), on August 24, 2019 and his son, William Mart, on August 21, 2019. Bill is survived by his adoring family; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Gray and Richard W. (Rick) Brasher, and grandsons, William Jackson (Meagan Van Buren), Richard Gray (Sarah Storey), and Edward Taylor (Brittany Cameron). His great granddaughter is due in January.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee on the fourth of July, 1924, to James Orinn and Catherine Mathews Simpkins, he was the nephew of Lucille Mathews and Samuel Bowman Taylor.  He will be fondly remembered as a man who loved the Lord, a gentleman with impeccable manners and a man who put his family at the top of his list.  His Christian faith guided, sustained and strengthened him. With his sparkling blue eyes and charming smile, he remained a kind and grateful man with a huge heart full of love for others. Affectionately known as Granddaddy, he relished telling stories of the Nashville he knew and giving his family a history lesson as often as possible. He provided well for his family through the real estate industry and maintained a strong work ethic and knack for negotiating every detail of a deal.

The Brasher family remains grateful to Dr. Bruce Richards, Alive Hospice and Michelle Wright for their kind and compassionate care.

A celebration of Bill’s life is planned for Friday, October 4 at 3:00 p.m. at Belle Meade United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Drumel officiating. A visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. and immediately after the service.

Please make donations to the church at 121 Davidson Road Nashville, TN 37205, Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN  37203 or Brentwood Academy, 219 Granny White Pike, Brentwood, TN 37027.
