History

Austin Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC has been serving Brentwood area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

The Austin family has been serving the greater Nashville community providing funeral service and burial management for over 65 years. Most of those years were spent working for corporately owned funeral homes in Brentwood and Nashville. However, in April of 2007 the Austin’s were able to realize a lifelong dream of opening a family owned and operated funeral business, where treating each family with compassion and respect comes above all else.

Since 2007, a lot has happened. The Austin’s and their dedicated staff have served hundreds of families and have continued to build strong connections with others in the community, yet they have also experienced their own personal loss in the deaths of Milton and Rick Austin, father and son. Both were integral in the formation of Austin Funeral & Cremation Services.

Today Austin Funeral & Cremation Services stands on the shoulders of these two men who dedicated their lives to serving others. Although the Austin’s never dreamed of losing both Milton and Rick soon after the company was founded, their legacy lives on each and every day as the Austin family and staff continue to compassionately care for other families of the community.

Milton Austin

September 22, 1919 – March 10, 2009
Milton Austin began his career as a teenager working part-time for his grandfather’s funeral home in West Tennessee. After serving our country during WWII, Milton returned to Nashville and enrolled in John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1947. His devotion, dedication, and commitment to the funeral industry and families of Nashville were unprecedented throughout his entire career. A long-time colleague of Milton writes, “In my 40 years of being associated with the funeral service, no one to my knowledge has touched more lives and influenced more than Milton Austin. His sincerity and dedication to those he served was a moving force in his successful approach to business.”

Rick Austin

August 10, 1948 – November 4, 2007
Rick Austin followed in his father’s footsteps and began his full-time career in the funeral service in 1970 after graduating from Western Kentucky University. While most of his career was spent in a managerial role, his greatest reward was building relationships with families and guiding them through a difficult time. Rick’s personality could make anyone smile even on the worst of days. His love of Nashville and involvement in the community was unwavering as he served on numerous boards and was honored with many accolades.

The Austin family is grateful to God for the lives of Milton and Rick and the firm foundation on which Austin Funeral & Cremation Services stands.
