Honoring Robert Butler

Robert Leo Butler, age 92, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, beloved dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on December 5, 2019.  He was the youngest child of Charles J. and Ruby Rae Butler and was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Dixie Lee Woods Butler in 1990 and Ilene “Corkey” Pendergrass Butler in 2012, as well as his 8 siblings, and his grandson, Charles Butler Baldinger.  He is survived by his children, Timothy W. Butler, Kimber Lee Butler Baldinger (Paul), and Jessica Adair Butler; his beloved stepdaughter, Mary Ann Thompson Copes; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bobby was born in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, but spent his formative years in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he attended Bradley County High School.  A natural athlete, he played varsity basketball and football as a freshman and started as varsity tailback the following 3 years.  As a senior, he was named All East Tennessee, All State and All Southern.

He was a career Army officer and retired after 21 years of service.  He served honorably with the occupation forces in Japan following WWII, in the Korean War and in the War in VietNam.   In 2014, he moved to Kingston Springs to be closer to his children and grandchildren.  He was loved and respected for his wisdom, his humor, and his keen insight into current events.  He lived his life fully by a personal Code of Honor, rejoicing in his faith, his family and his friends; finding humor in every situation~~even the most dire.  His legacy is the love he leaves behind in his family.
